Have you ever experienced that moment when sound waves wash over you, and suddenly…everything shifts? Where your worries dissolve into waves of peaceful vibration? Where the only thing that exists is the present moment, wrapped in harmonious tones that seem to come from everywhere and nowhere at once?
When the gentle resonance of crystal bowls creates a space so peaceful, you forget where your body ends and infinity begins? When every worry melts away and you find yourself touching a place of pure serenity you didn’t know existed?
That transformative power of sound is what has the ability to connect with you deeply on a vibrational level. The ability to help you transcend the everyday and touch something deeper, more profound.
While focused sound therapy and sound baths might seem mystical – and indeed, the experience can feel otherworldly – their effects are grounded in neuroscience. Research shows that specific sound frequencies:
Activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress hormones
Induce theta and delta brainwave states associated with deep meditation
Lower blood pressure and heart rate
Help release serotonin and dopamine – our feel-good hormones
Healing with sound is believed to date back to ancient Greece, when music was used in an attempt to cure mental disorders. Throughout history, music has been used to boost morale in military troops, help people work faster and more productively, and even ward off evil spirits by chanting. More recently, research has linked music to a number of health benefits, from boosting immune function and lowering stress levels to improving the health of premature babies. The concept of sound therapy is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration which resonates in a certain frequency. Many things including illness, pain, mental health, stress, lack of sleep influence the frequency of our body’s vibration and can negatively impact our wellbeing. When your body is out of balance, diseases can result. That is, illness is caused by blockage which stops the organ in question from vibrating at its healthy frequency. Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout your body, which brings harmony through oscillation and resonance. This helps restore your body’s balance which in turn helps you heal. The vibrational frequencies from crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks, crystal pyramids, gongs, and drums all have the ability to realign your body’s vibrational frequency resulting improved physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Sound therapy is used to treat symptoms of a number of conditions, including:
post-traumatic stress disorder
dementia
autism spectrum disorder and learning difficulties
behavioral and psychiatric disorders
cancer
Some of the supposed benefits of music therapy include:
lowers stress
decreases mood swings
lowers blood pressure
lowers cholesterol levels
pain management
lowers risk for coronary artery disease and stroke
improves sleep
HOW IT WORKS
Sound therapy uses different aspects of vibration through sound to improve your emotional and physical well-being. How it works depends on the method being used. Most sound therapy sessions are experienced one-on-one with a specially trained practitioner.
A session may involve sitting or lying down while listening music and sounds instruments, or having vibrations applied using a special tool, such as a tuning fork. Depending on the method, you may be encouraged to participate by singing, moving, or even using a musical instrument, or you may need to remain still and quiet to let the sounds take effect.
Tuning fork therapy uses calibrated metal tuning forks to apply specific vibrations to different parts of the body. This can help release tension and energy and promote emotional balance. It supposedly works similarly to acupuncture, using sound frequencies for point stimulation instead of needles. There is some research suggesting that tuning fork therapy may help relieve muscle and bone pain.
When considering any healing practice, it’s important to be mindful of precautions. If you are experiencing any of the following conditions, you may need to modify or forgo your tuning fork session.
Some tuning fork therapy can be tailored to accommodate specific conditions, you can still have your chakras balanced without touching the body. Please reach out with any questions prior to booking.
CONDITIONS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR TUNING FORK THERAPY
Cancer (this is for active cancer only and not cancer in remission)
Detoxification pathways can be intense, leading to discomfort. This is because the body may have difficulty digesting new energetic inputs that detox the body.
Tumors may become aggravated by the tuning process.
Acute or Terminal Illness
The body’s systems may lack the strength to process new energy effectively.
Detoxification can be severe, leading to further complications.
Acute or advanced illness can be aggravated by strong post-detox symptoms.
End-of-Life
The intensity of tuning forks may overwhelm the system that is already shutting down.
Detoxification can be severe and challenging to manage.
Pregnancy
Biofield tuning might trigger some detoxification, which could be harmful or risk miscarriage.
Pacemakers or Other Implanted Medical Devices
Tuning forks may interfere with the operation of these devices.
Controlled Seizures and Seizure Disorders
Seizures may be triggered when the frequency is activated in past seizure-causing areas.
Recent Concussions
The brain is in a vulnerable state, and inflammation takes time to subside.
It’s recommended to wait at least 3 to 6 months post-concussion before using tuning forks on the head.
CONDITIONS REQUIRING TUNING FORK TREATMENT MODIFICATIONS
Please let your practitioner know if you have any of these conditions so modification to your treatment can be made.
Broken Bones, metal rods, screws, or plates.
Vibrational input can be uncomfortable with broken/fractured bones.
Dental Issues
Broken or chipped teeth, crowns, implants, metal rods, plates, etc.
Morbid Obesity
While not strictly contraindicated, tuning fork therapy can lead to significant detoxification, which may be overwhelming. incremental treatments increased over time are recommended.
Varicose Veins
Less pressure is used around varicose veins. Large varicose veins are avoided so potential clots are not released.
SOUND BATH
A sound bath is an experience of meditation guided by sound or music.
Also referred to as sound meditation, it calms the mind and body and promotes an overall sense of well-being.
At the beginning of each session, we give a brief overview of how to approach the meditation and start with some breathing exercises. Then we invite participants to lie down on their yoga mat, close their eyes, and stay present while listening to the sounds. In our sound baths, we focus on a combination of crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, and gongs. All singing bowls are tuned to specific musical notes and frequency of our chakras (the body’s energy centers) and have a centering, relaxing effect, while gongs add powerful tones to the sound experience and have a releasing effect. We also incorporate frame drums, ocean drums, chimes, and other ancient and tribal instruments. The resulting symphony of sounds eases the mind into a relaxed brainwave state and allows the body to restore its natural balance.

“Sound baths are designed to put you in a more relaxed state of mind by lowering your brain wave frequency into alpha and even theta state,” Singh said. “It’s good for stress management as it helps you attain the more relaxed state of mind.”
